  1. Zinc Oxide

its been in a zip lock bag in a gallon paint can.
  2. Zinc Oxide

The Zinc Oxide I just mixed into three glazes is grainy; like sand. It doesn't go through my 80 mesh sieve. Any ideas; what would you do next? Will it soften if left alone?
  3. all this rusty talk made me go check the back of my skutt 1027. To my pleasant surprise, it has virtually NO RUST. bought it in 1996 and it lived in Florida 3 blocks off a bay for nearly 10 yrs! It is now in Georgia where summer humidity is crazy high; in an un airconditiioned and unheated (except when in use) metal building. I have not purposefully done anything to keep in such good shape.
  4. Bats-

At the end of a throwing session with clay slab and 6" bats, I use and wood tool to get under the outside edge of the clay disc. Then I turn it into a bowl and I (1) don't have to recycle that clay, (2) have one more item thrown.
  5. what do your dislike more; waiting for a kiln to cool or watching paint dry?

    1. Chilly

      Chilly

Watching paint dry is better, at least there is something to watch !

kiln is worse!! You can at least see the result with the paint!!

  6. Bats-

I have been using the same 6" round masonite bats for about 17-18yrs. I do a lot of mugs and small bowls, but have thrown a 3lb orb shape on them; thats about my limit on a 6" bat.
  7. Wood-Fired Turbo Kiln

I've thought that it would be great to make one so that the entire top half could be lifted with a pulley system. similar to a huge raku kiln.
  8. Wood-Fired Turbo Kiln

On a side note, but related. Here is some interesting info about traditional wood kilns in the South. http://www.crawfordcountyhistoricalsociety.org/Pages/kiln.html
  9. Traditional Pottery From Agost, Spain Youtube

He did not learn the score and slip for attachments mantra ; so he must not have learned at a universary.
  10. Do You Mix Or Buy Ready Made? Poll

buy clay mix glazes except one soon I will have a dozen more commercially made glazes to experiment with.
  11. Free Glaze

I'm sending out a list of about 13 or 14 pints. It's not easy to visualize using them. I make functional table ware with a little horse hair thrown in for fun. I'm used to the "plunk and dunk" glaze technique. painting from little jars will be an experience.
  12. My wife just won $150.00 worth of free glazes from amaco! She has been learning to throw for about 2 months, so she wants me to decide what I want. I make my glazes and find the number of choices overwhelming. Anyone have suggestions...I fire to cone 6 ox.
